This year, per usual, I celebrated my birthday all month. I moved to a new city. Started a new job. Traveled to London for work. Had a pretty epic trip to New Orleans. Ran 100 miles. Celebrated my 6 month wedding anniversary. And adopted a rescue puppy. (Also, by the time I'm posting this, I'm two weeks post birthday month which I suppose is to be expected with how busy life has suddenly become.) Aside from the running - which I'm grateful has become part of my daily life - I had no clue that my 33rd year was going to be so transformative and fulfilling. Ran Boston (with a PR).
Won a half marathon (sub 1:30). Got engaged. Got married (6 weeks after engagement). Traveled to 10 countries (6 of them new). Left the Gap. Moved away from San Francisco. Ran nearly 2,000 miles. Enjoyed so much time with family. Wandered. Drove through 30 US States. Spent a lot of time in Bend with BFFs. Moved to Seattle. Started a new job with Amazon. Yes. My 33rd year was nothing like I expected it to be and I've never felt better about letting go and simply embracing opportunity. I celebrate a birthday month because I believe birthdays are a big deal. Growing older is a privilege, and it is one denied to many. I am grateful for each day. I'm grateful for the opportunities that have been presented to me that I have embraced. I'm so grateful for the people that are in my life. And I think a month isn't long enough to celebrate all of this - but it'll do. So, while I'm officially celebrating the fact that I made it to age 34 in decent condition with some pretty amazing stories to tell - I will continue to look at every day as a new opportunity to learn, grow, improve my perspective, be kind to others and to simply choose happiness. After this last year, I am not going to try to predict or control exactly how my life will unfold in this next trip around the sun. But I'll continue to appreciate every step.
