Eliza's Life (Un)expected by
choosing happiness
Being happy is not about perfection. It's not about "having it all". Or getting to that certain level at work, being with the right person or hitting that personal record goal. Or even that you can't be sad, or get hurt. Sometimes, things can just suck. But you can still be fundamentally happy, if you choose to be. It's really a waste of time to not choose this path because you have this within your power.
I have found that the things that allow me to easily choose happiness are loving and showing compassion - finding that purpose that drives me. Running and fitness are integral to my path to happiness. (Even when it hurts, I keep coming back!) Food, good food, is paramount. I wouldn't say I have a sophisticated palette, but it's definitely appreciative. And travel. Oh to see new places and visit old favorites. To learn, explore and grow in perspective. The world has so much to offer. |
|
Combining these things - travel with running, eating and sharing it with people I love... this is my happy place. This path was not expected, but I'm so happy I found my way here.
eatIt's required to survive - so it might as well be enjoyable. I love a healthy, home cooked meal. But I also love to explore restaurants just as much. I believe the best way to learn about a new place while traveling is by tasting what they have to offer.
There is a very probable correlation with how much I love to eat and then therefore need to run... |
runRunning has grounded me and allowed me to fly at the same time. It's something I need to do. Regardless of what else is going on in my life, running centers in me and allows me to gain perspective. And to sweat. And to compete. All really important for my health and well being.
Running has surrounded me with good, positive people. |
loveA life without love is not a life. Loving yourself first is crucial to your ability to be open to love in your life.
Love is about acceptance and trust and allowing that feeling to excite you and motivate you - even when you're not at your best. During my 20's I found love for myself, my passions and purpose, and the person I would marry. |
& travelThere is no book, picture or movie that can replace the actual experience of traveling. The perspective gained is life changing.
Years ago I left everything behind in the US to live on other continents. I've traveled to over 45 countries and I am grateful everyday for taking this opportunity. It's changed the way I continue to live my life. |
