It feels really good to be in W1D5 of 2018 and have already checked off a step toward one goal. I changed the title of my blog/site (welcome!), launched a market place with my coaching offerings (let me know if you would like to work with me!) and kicked off a matching FB page to further share my love of running, eating really good food and traveling. All on January 1st! I gave myself a quick pat on the back but now it’s back to work. Continuous improvement of each of these will be necessary – and maintaining them is where the hard work really falls – so please keep me accountable and let me know what you think and where I can improve! I also spent some time reviewing my 2017 goals and reflecting on wins and misses. I find it helpful to hindsight the good and the bad and apply this learning to the next round of goals so I can avoid making the same mistakes and ensure I’m focusing on the right things. Mainly – SMART, outcome based goals that serve a purpose. I accomplished some big things this year. I think starting the year off by taking a new job and moving us to a new city was a huge change. Subsequently now planning for a move aboard with my job has been taxing on my time and energy. Still managing to get my coaching certificate during this time was a mini-miracle. Getting injured so badly early in the year had a downstream impact on all my running goals in 2017. I wasn’t able to hit any of my PR targets. BUT – building enough strength to PR at all in NYC (a tough course) was also an achievement that I am more proud of than disappointed. I cut drinking out of my life for 16 weeks in total this past year which was refreshing and wonderful for my overall health. And while I didn’t get any new country stamps in my passport (I am using a new passport due to accomplishing that name change though!) I did get to pop over to Europe twice and ran in cool places like over the Tower Bridge in London and around the Eiffel Tower in Paris. I also traveled and explored quite a bit on the west coast with a few fun trips to other parts of the US and North America as well. (Canada, Mexico, Oregon(x8), California(x6), Idaho, Nevada, Wisconsin, Illinois, Louisiana, New York and Florida.) There are also a couple things worth noting that had nothing to do with these goals – but are definitely worth celebrating. Erik and I rang in our first wedding anniversary. It was a pretty special year in which we settled in more with each other but in no way settled or slowed down our love of adventure and drive to chase it together. And we adopted Michoa. Mitch is by far the most perfect dog we could have ever hoped for and we feel so fortunate to have him join us on our journey. (Yes, he’s moving to Tokyo with us!) 2017 was big. Parts of it (mostly any part that involved the current presidential administration doing…anything) were bad. But so many things were fundamentally good and I find myself feeling really grateful for the good that I am fortunate enough to be part of everyday. So that leaves big shoes for 2018 – and a new approach to my goal. I’ve found great success with project planning in my professional life and think this approach will be really beneficial for life planning as well. And I’m going to keep is simple. 2 life goals / 2 career goals / 2 health & fitness goals. There will be a project plan to help me reach these – working backward from what success looks like. It’s been wonderful to start to 2018, visiting both Erik and my families before packing up and moving to the other side of the world. Buckle up for what I’m sure will be a very crazy year.
